Story Story for Valentine's Day to Memorial Day Today is the anniversary of the "Memorial Day".
E 'for this reason that I intend to celebrate it with my story dedicated to my grandmother's brother, Ferruccio, who during World War II managed to escape from a concentration camp. His father (my grandfather), but Fioravante will never return home ...
La Fuga story Stefano Pelloni
Dedicated to Ferruccio Mattioli
two days that I was now heading south. The feet were hopelessly
sores, and cramping due to hunger were becoming unbearable, but compared to what I was once a paradise.
I'm not kidding, I was a fugitive, I was able to escape from a concentration camp. No place is more abominable, more shocking and terrible.
Here is the animal being able to give the best of herself, she has touched the lowest level that a human can ever imagine.
I was still one of the lucky ones, I was not jew, or communist, I was just the fallen Italian soldier in captivity because the armistice of 8 September.
If I was in my place and I did not say what I risked my life, not always anyway.
But one day I saw that the fence had opened a small gap.
now I could not stand more, I was sick and my body was all exhausted most days. If I had spent more months in that place I would soon get her company to those unfortunates who came daily in the ovens: Yes, I would have killed me too, and my body there would be nothing left, just a little ashes scattered over the plains of Poland .
And so that little gap had become an obsession for me.
At night, between a groan and the other, I thought how it would be incredible escape.
Beside the field there was a forest, would have been easy to hide and take the road to the south. It took
But luck and courage and I was almost convinced that I had been abandoned by both.
The days passed and I gave in more and more, the Germans had also started to beat me with truncheons, the deadly Gummi, rubber sticks out big and steel wire, and I knew that I would soon be deleted, as to be useless.
And so one night I leaned on instinct and luck, and succeeded, I do not even know how to escape.
Two days of walking, endless hours in search of a house, a hot soup and two words.
At night I was more road as possible so as not to be intercepted by the Nazi patrols roamed the area. But I hope in my heart that the Russians were close.
Nevertheless some voices came to the camp, and given also the agitation that had reigned in recent days between the Germans, we realized that the Allies were close and that would come soon ... but not all, unfortunately.
For many, however, would come too late ...
It was broad daylight and I walked in hugging a ditch, I was terrified of being discovered.
Suddenly I heard an engine noise.
I turned and saw that a truck was coming with German insignia. Scared
I fell into the ditch and waited for his passing.
I felt that my strength were abandoned. The privations endured during those long years were having the upper hand. I was free, yes, but free to die?
The truck approached, and while I lowered my head to not see me. If I had
seen, a blow to the head I did not have anyone removed.
At this point, she put a hand in fate.
I never believed in God, but only in destiny, and now if I played eighty-four years to tell this story, there must be a reason.
If I had died I would have found then, but life is a bitch so I have my doubts, however, sent later in time.
But as I said, the fate in store for us great twists, and here comes that day on time, in that place, and I was practically dying.
I heard a roar loud and I knew immediately that a plane was approaching.
I conquered my fear and I raised my head. Down the street at
a few meters of Russian aircraft, a fighter, was heading toward the truck.
clearly saw the flames come out of machine guns placed on the wings and bullets sticking on the way forward.
do not know what happened next because, recently won a hardship for a little fear, lost consciousness.
When I came silence reigned supreme.
I had excruciating stomach pain, hunger, advancing inexorably.
The chirping of birds, however, was disturbed by a strange rattle.
I tried to get up, and although my legs felt sore and my body was able to sit up protest.
peered over the edge of the ditch and saw that the truck was first put on its side and that was burning. Shortly
away there was what was left of the soldier at the wheel.
I had a retching. It 's weird, but I had not yet accustomed to seeing the dead, was stronger than me.
I got up and slowly I approached the half.
I was now a few steps when a metallic sound made me shiver.
I turned my gaze and saw that sitting next to a tree there was a German soldier (the gray uniform was unmistakable), who looked at me grimly.
front of him open a few cans of meat was cooking up a few twigs and stones that served as hearth.
I was a goner.
Yes, at that moment I thought that my efforts were in vain.
He raised his hand in greeting and smiled. I was
and appalled, realizing my discomfort, he beckoned to me unique.
It marked the stomach and then his mouth, I was wondering if I was hungry.
- Ja - I told him and he threw me a box.
stayed long to eat side by side.
Not a word, but only nods, pats on the back, gestures.
Shortly after I was gripped by the terrible pain.
My stomach was not accustomed to eating in quantity for which he was rebelling.
I got up and fell after making a few meters on all fours.
do not know how I stood there like that, but when I opened my eyes it was already dark.
The truck had stopped burning, the German was gone, and side of the road there was a small mound with a cross.
The pain had passed and I felt I was not as strong as ever.
I laughed hard, and I thought the absurdity of war.
I was saved by a man who represented everything that he wanted to kill me and put on fire throughout Europe.
subsequently managed to return to Italy and now here I am telling this story.
do not know what I would pay now to review the man, because if it survived only thanks to him.
The moral of this story?
I do not know, I've asked myself.
E 'that sometimes, at night, I see that face that smiles at me and hands me the food, and then I think ... no, I do not think, I cry.
